USA Diving has selected 12 divers to represent the United States at the February 19-24 FINA Diving World Cup in Beijing. These divers will not only compete for an international world cup title, but this event also serves as an Olympic qualifier.
The U.S. will be looking to earn an additional six Olympic spots, having already secured six spots at the 2007 World Championships. For the women, the U.S. needs to earn spots in both the three-meter synchronized and 10-meter synchronized events. The women also have one spot to fill on 10-meter platform. The men have already secured Olympic berths in both synchronized events but are still seeking two individual spots on 10-meter platform and one spot on 3-meter springboard.
In synchronized events, the top four World Cup finishers whose countries have not already earned spots will qualify for the Olympic Games. Individually, the top 18 divers at the World Cup will qualify their countries for Olympic berths, unless that country has already filled its maximum two spots or if that diver has already earned a spot for his country.
