Olympic Update:
With a silver on springboard and a gold in synchronized springboard, Wu now has four Olympic medals. She finished second to Guo Jingjing on springboard and now at the age of 22, appears to be the heir apparent to the Chinese springboard fortunes. That's only if Guo really retires!Always a Bridesmaid, Never a Bride:
Wu Minxia seems to always finish second at the world championships , at the Olympics . . . When she does finish first, its always with her teammate,
Guo Jingjing, in synchro. Will she move from the shadow of Guo, the undisputed queen of the springoard? Wu defeated Guo at the
2008 FINA World Cup in February, setting up what could be an epic battle for the springboard title.
One of the Worlds Best:
Wu has won 10 world championship and Olympic medals, quite an accomplishment for any diver, let alone one who is only 22-years-old. By the time Wu finishes competing likely not until at least after 2012, she could earn more combined medals than any other diver in history, and possibly escape from the Guos shadow.
Synchro Domination:
Wu and Guo have dominated synchronized springboard since they began diving together in 2001. They have won the world championship synchro springboard title three times, and have Olympic gold from Athens. They will enter the Beijing competition as heavy favorites.
Wu's Stats:
