Definition: A smack in diving occurs when a diver either under, or over rotates or twists on a dive, hitting with water with enough force to cause pain or physical injury.
Smacks can occur on any dive, no matter how easy or difficult. Forceful smacks can result in bleeding or bruising, and cause the diver to experience a shortness of breath, known as "having the wind knocked out."
