Woody's Diving BlogKentucky Diving Coach Mike Lyden Receives 2007-2008 WHOSAM Award
Mike Lyden has been named the recipient of the 2007-2008 WHOSAM Award. This prestigious award, chosen by two-time Olympic gold medalist Dr. Sammy Lee, is presented annually to a diving coach “for a commitment to excellence and dedication to the highest physical, mental and spiritual ideals.” Lyden, who is currently in a battle against lung cancer, has become an inspiration for both divers and coaches with his determination and “never-say-die” attitude. Lyden has brought Kentucky’s diving program to national prominence over his 15-year career, producing 49 all-america selections, 13 SEC champions, and one NCAA champion. He has been named SEC Diving Coach of the Year nine times, and was named the 1996 NCAA Women’s Diving Coach of the Year.
